A BITTER SWEET WEEK

This was a bitter sweet week for Umkomaas Golf Club. On Wednesday 28th February, club members, staff and visitors spent the day with Pam Kruger who held the title as Club Secretary for over 9 years. Pam had decided to retire and boy will she be missed. It was noted that Pam was tough, strict but fair, calm, hardworking and absolutely loyal to the club. She had also captained the club prior to her working days and may even return to her golf. Don’t worry, this isn’t goodbye forever, Pam will be back to visit. As the club manager Sonny says, ‘See you later Mrs K.’

We also bade farewell to our wonderful club members, Vesa and Suzi who resigned and will be returning back home the following Tuesday.

Moving onto the sweet side of the bitter sweet coin, Sean Prendergast celebrated his 50th birthday in true golfer style on Saturday 3 rd March. A hearty round of golf with his close friends and family followed by a braai and some party games were the events of the day. Happy Birthday Sean!!

Continuing with the excitement, much appreciation and thanks was given to Kurt and Erika who kindly donated their golf cart to the club.

UGC’s newest and most recent club member, Michael Pretorius played his first game on Saturday. Welcome Michael!

Now onto the results: The club welcomed Allan Eriksen, Derek Cowden who played in Wednesday’s competition and Craig Pitt, a friend of Sean Prendergast, who played on Saturday’s competition. Don’t forget about our Fun Bingo Nite - With a Twist, which will be held this month, the date will be announced on our Facebook page in the next few days and in next week’s article.

Just some motivation for the rest of the month, a quote by the late American golfer, William Payne Stewart, ‘A bad attitude is worse than a bad swing.’ Until next week, that’s a wrap from us at Umkomaas Golf Club. Catch you on the greens!
