2016 Aliwal Shoal tournament a great success
The Aliwal Stroll Golf Tournment, named as a play on the Aliwal Shoal situated just offshore from Umkomaas, is played over the long weekend in August and was created as an opportunity to bring together golfers from all our reciprocity clubs. It's a great opportunity to meet new people and to experience the hospitality and friendliness synonomous with Umkomaas Golf Club. The two-day tournament includes a betterball and alliance competition with prizes available on each day, as well as a cumulative prize for the overall team champions. Lots of great socialising takes place too at the 19th hole.
Inaugral Tournament a success!
The inaugural Aliwal Stroll, a long-standing idea that finally reached fruition, took place on 7 & 8 August 2016 and thanks go to John Thompson and his team for organising this event.
Many thanks to all the players who took part. A special thanks go out to all our visitors who travelled from Johannesburg, where the majority of our reciprocity clubs are located, to support this new tournament. Wonderful to see the support from our extended community as local B&B offered special rates for those partiicipating in the competition. We look forward to welcoming even larger numbers next year!
The weather really played it's part and the glorious sunshine was much appreciated by the players. The course was in great condition, especially considering the torrential rain and flooding from just a few weeks before.
